Volunteer Training

Our Volunteers undergo a comprehensive, 33 hour Hospice Volunteer training approved by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO). Attendance to all units is mandatory. The training is held at a venue on Yonge and Wilson, easily accessible by subway or bus. Typically, the sessions (modules) take place on Mondays and Thursdays, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and run for about five weeks. We train Volunteers in the Fall, Winter, and Summer and there is no cost to the Volunteer. The Volunteers are awarded a Certificate following completion of the training and being matched with a Client for a minimum of six (6) months. The expectation is that Volunteers are able to commit to their Client and caregiver for a minimum of one year. At the end of the training sessions, our Volunteers are confident and ready to be matched with a Client. They have the tools they need to effectively support their Client and caregiver.

The next training session – Winter 2017 – will be starting on February 23, 2017. Please e-mail Audrey Philip, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at audrey.p@hbhospice.com or call us at 416-782-5915.
